About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) works within the administration’s pre-defined scope of practice guidelines for the state where they practice. In the ambulatory care setting, the MA collects subjective and objective health status data from patients or caregivers and communicates it to health care providers. The MA contributes data to licensed health care professionals and follows through on patients’ plans of care under provider direction. The MA communicates specifically defined provider instructions for care to patients or caregivers and participates in care across the lifespan, including prevention, health maintenance, treatment, and follow-up as patients move among care settings. Duties are performed under the direct supervision of a person licensed to practice medicine. Specialized clinical duties may include obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, observing and reporting patient signs or symptoms, and performing point-of-care testing. In the Interventional Radiology department, the role offers opportunities to work closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and clinical staff; gain exposure to complex cases and develop clinical and procedural skills; build relationships with patients who may require ongoing care; and contribute to improvements in workflows, access, staffing models, and programs.
