The Medical Assistant will adhere to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, follow all policies and procedures, and maintain training and competency based on the area of specialty when providing patient care. This role involves performing rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings. The Medical Assistant will assist providers with or perform procedures as ordered, and handle lab-related duties including venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, and results tracking. They will also perform Point of Care testing (POCT) and complete CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests. Administration of medications and vaccines safely is a key responsibility, along with other duties such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals. The Medical Assistant will be cross-trained to perform duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice within their scope. Effective communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation are essential. Maintaining a clean work environment, ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately, and ensuring equipment and supplies are in working order and areas are stocked are also key functions. The role requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, understanding the principles of growth and development over the life span and assessing data reflective of patient status.
