About The Position

A nonexempt position responsible for preparing patients for exams and procedures; assisting physicians with surgeries and procedures; taking necessary vital signs and measurements; obtaining and processing lab specimens; scheduling appointments, tests and procedures; assisting physician in any other way to ensure effective patient flow. The role involves welcoming patients, documenting vital signs and chief complaints, assisting physicians with procedures, reviewing patient charts for up-to-date information, ordering outside testing, processing prescription refill requests, managing voice mail, completing disability reports, routing billing sheets, cleaning and sterilizing instruments, maintaining OSHA logs, restocking patient rooms, ordering medical supplies, checking physician mail, making appointment confirmation calls, providing back-up as instructed, and handling medical records requests. The position also requires promoting the company's purpose, values, and foundations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Graduation from an accredited medical assistant program required
  • One year work related experience preferred
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Knowledge of health care field, medical terminology and medical office protocols & procedures
  • Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to the particular specialty medical practice
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office, Word and Excel
  • Skill in performing medical assistant tasks appropriately and within the Medical Assistant Scope of Practice
  • Tact and diplomacy with interpersonal interactions
  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete designated tasks
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and patience when dealing with patients and patient’s families
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image

Responsibilities

  • Preparing patients for exams and procedures
  • Assisting physicians with surgeries and procedures
  • Taking necessary vital signs and measurements
  • Obtaining and processing lab specimens
  • Scheduling appointments, tests and procedures
  • Assisting physician in any other way to ensure effective patient flow
  • Welcoming patients, visitors, physicians and staff in a warm, friendly and professional manner
  • Rooming patients upon arrival, documenting patient’s vital signs and chief complaint in the patient’s chart
  • Confirming current medication list and any additional information as instructed by the physician
  • Assisting physicians with procedures and tests as within the Medical Assistant Scope of Practice
  • Reviewing patient’s chart two days prior to patient’s appointment and checking that all pertinent information is up-to-date including current referrals and test results
  • Ordering outside testing, obtaining any authorization needed and notifying patient of scheduled appointments
  • Pulling prescription refill requests and obtaining approval from physician to refill
  • Calling or faxing in any orders approved by physician
  • Checking voice mail messages regularly throughout the day and addressing/responding to all inquiries by the end of each day
  • Completing doctor’s disability reports and placing a copy of report in patient’s chart
  • Assisting in routing completed billing sheet to the appropriate location
  • Cleaning and sterilizing instruments
  • Maintaining OSHA logs and keeping up to date for compliance
  • Restocking patient rooms with supplies on a daily basis
  • Inventorying and ordering medical supplies as needed
  • Checking assigned physicians mail on a daily basis and notifying physician of patients’ lab and test results; meeting times; etc.
  • Making appointment confirmation calls as needed
  • Sending a new patient packet to the patient prior to first appointment when making a new patient appointment
  • Providing back-up as instructed by office manager and/or physician
  • Handling Medical records requests as needed
