About The Position

Cornerstone Family Healthcare is actively recruiting for a Medical Assistant to join our growing team in Newburgh. This role provides quality patient care within the department, under the direction of a supervising Registered/Practical Nurse. The Medical Assistant will perform screening procedures, identify potential patient problems, and participate in Cornerstone’s Care Team Model, including pre-visit planning and care team huddles. They will also assist with population management, quality improvement activities, and triage phone and walk-in inquiries. Adherence to safe nursing practices, infection control, and patient safety goals is crucial. The MA will assist providers with procedures, perform various screenings (hearing, vision, EKG, POCT), and maintain a clean and safe patient environment. They must be familiar with and adhere to all Cornerstone policies and procedures, maintain confidentiality, and attend required meetings. This is a full-time temporary position.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current BLS Certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform screening procedures and documentation in accordance with Cornerstone policies and procedures.
  • Identify potential patient problems, alert the Nurse or Provider.
  • Participate in Cornerstone’s Care Team Model, including but not limited to: Participate in Pre-Visit Planning (see Pre-Visit Planning Policy).
  • Participate in care team huddles/communication.
  • Assist with population management activities for assigned patient panel.
  • Direct and participate in quality improvement activities within the care team and department.
  • Refer phone and walk-in triage to Nurse or Provider.
  • Strictly adhere to safe nursing practices, including but not limited to Infection Control, National Patient Safety Goals and Waived Testing set forth by CORNERSTONE policy and in compliance with Joint Commission and OSHA.
  • Assist providers with in-office procedures and exams as needed.
  • Perform hearing and vision screenings on children and adults.
  • Responsible for performing the following actions: EKG’s, all POCT included but not limited to: Rapid HIV, Rapid HEP C, Rapid Influenza, Urine Dip (UA, HCG), Finger-stick (Hemoglobin, Lead, Glucose, HbA1c, PT/INR).
  • Strictly adhere to safe practice guidelines, including but not limited to Infection Control, National Patient Safety Goals, and Waived Testing set forth by CORNERSTONE policy and in compliance with Joint Commission and OSHA.
  • Float to other departments, as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for the patient.
  • Make recommendations to supervisors for the improvement of health care for all patients.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all clinical, administrative, and general policies and procedures as outlined in the CORNERSTONE Policy and Procedure Manual and Employee Handbook.
  • Attend and participate in monthly department, All Staff and other required meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all aspects of CORNERSTONE including, but not limited to, patient confidentiality, financials, and employee relations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
