Medical Assistants work closely with providers to deliver high-quality patient care in Primary Care and Medical and Surgical Specialty clinics. Duties include rooming patients, taking vital signs, administering tests and immunizations, assisting with procedures, and managing follow-up tasks such as calls, refills, and result reporting. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides clinical and administrative support in a fast-paced ambulatory clinic setting. The role includes patient intake, vital signs, clinical documentation, diagnostic testing, medication administration, and assisting providers during exams and procedures. The CMA serves as a liaison between patients and the care team, supporting timely, compassionate, coordinated care and accurate electronic health records. The CMA also supports daily clinic operations, including scheduling, referrals, prior authorizations, prescription coordination, exam room preparation, and real-time patient communication. The role participates in quality improvement initiatives, promotes patient safety and compliance, and collaborates within a team-focused healthcare environment. New hires receive a comprehensive orientation and 4–6 weeks of hands-on preceptorship. St. Peter’s offers an internal training program with classroom and on-the-job instruction to prepare employees without MA certification for certification.
