This Medical Assistant position is in a busy Outpatient Cardiology Practice located at 2 Palisades Drive, Albany, NY, on an as-needed basis. Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalency
At least 10 months’ work and/or clinical training experience in the healthcare field
Proficient in obtaining manual vital signs
Experience using an electronic health record system
Commitment to confidentiality and respect
Ability to obtain and record patient data including but not limited to: prior health history, family history, allergies, current medications, current complaints, health screening questionnaires
Knowledge of basic anatomy and medical terminology
Experience assisting physicians, nurses, or other healthcare providers in performing clinical tasks and procedures
Ability to provide patients with information related to their health and wellness.

Graduate of a Medical Assistant Training Program
Holds National Medical Assistant Certification: CMA, CCMA, RMA

Responsibilities

Escort patients to exam rooms, take appropriate vital signs, and document all necessary health information into the electronic medical record.
Respond to patient concerns appropriately.
Complete referrals and obtain pre-authorizations for diagnostic testing.
Follow proper protocol for collection and delivery of specimens.
Participate in all required meetings and practice huddles.
Complete incoming patient forms and ensure they are scanned into the electronic medical record if applicable.
Use Universal Precautions with all encounters and follow procedures for handling exposures to blood or other body fluids.
Document all exposure incidents per St. Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates policy.
Notify the physician regarding patients in need of physician intervention.
Ensure that patient exam rooms are stocked and cleaned at all times.
Follow office protocol to ensure adequate supplies are ordered and stocked.
Perform office testing with appropriate training and within scope of practice.
Handle medical waste appropriately.
Provide educational materials to patients.
Provide patients with an electronic copy of their medical record.
Perform front-end functions to ensure achievement of established revenue cycle metrics, including scheduling, registration, check-in, check-out, charge entry/claims, and end-of-day processes.
Perform general duties including document processing, scanning, and inbox monitoring.
Comply with the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) care delivery model.
Perform all mandatory training.
Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Work cooperatively with all team members to ensure quality patient care.
Communicate respectfully and effectively with providers, clinical staff, colleagues, managers, and others.
Adhere to St. Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates employment guidelines and policies and procedures.
Adhere to St. Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates Code of Conduct in the performance of all job duties.
Obtain and maintain medical assistant certification according to MA certification policy.
Cross-cover other areas as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
