About The Position

Provides patient care services in the back office medical setting, which will meet the specific needs of the patient.

Requirements

• Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
• Completed an APPROVED Medical Assistant Training Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health (CAAHEP) or The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or The U.S. Department of Education (DAPIP).
• Completed an UNAPPROVED medical assistant training program AND Successfully passes the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
• Certification by (CMA) Certified Medical Assistant administered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• Certification by (RMA) Registered Medical Assistant approved for medical assistants that meet the American Medical Technologists (AMT) criteria
• Certification by (CCMA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant administered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
• Certification by (NCMA) National Certified Medical Assistant certified by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Certification by (CMAC) Clinical Medical Assistant Certification administered by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
• Completed an UNAPPROVED medical assistant training program AND Employed as a medical assistant for one (1) year or more after program completion (must have occurred prior to February 2, 2000 for Arizona, or no date restriction for other states).
• Directly supervised by the SAME physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours (approximately working 40 hours/week for 12 months) prior to February 2, 2000 (for Arizona).
• Completed a United States Armed Forces medical services training program.
• Advanced EMT (AEMT)
• EMT-Intermediate (EMT-I)
• EMT Paramedic
• Paramedic (Medic)
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
• Current healthcare professional level CPR certification issued by American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety Health Institute or National Safety Council.
• For Nebraska: Must obtain and maintain biennially a Medication Aide Registry.
• For Nebraska: Medication training (injectable and non-injectable medications) and injection competency verified post-hire.

• Prior recent experience in an emergency department, urgent care or other clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Performs the essential functions as defined as by the appropriate Skills Competency Checklist.
• Compliance with established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
• Implements infection control policies throughout the course of patient care and other job duties.
• Complies with personal protective equipment policy necessary for protection from exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious disease and other hazardous substances.
• Observes and communicates changes in the patient's condition to the provider on duty.
• Assists provider with exams, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care under direct supervision.
• Participates in the completion of the emergency equipment daily checklist, as well as any assigned duties and tasks necessary to maintain compliance with Federal and State regulations.
• Participates in education programs and attends meetings as required.
• Dispenses prescriptions and medications per policy.
• Follows and complies with standing orders policy; recognizes when the provider on duty is necessary based on patient presentation and policy guidance.
• Administers medications per policy and adheres to all safety protocols and procedures for medication administration.
• Notifies the provider on duty promptly of all unusual patient occurrences including medication events on an incident report.
• Promptly notifies the Clinic Manager of patient or employee safety concerns.
• Follows guidelines and requirements of laboratory and clinical accreditation policies.
• Treats patients and co-workers consistent with the NextCare Mission Statement, Vision, Values and Performance Standards.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or described by Company policy.
• Perform moderate-complexity clinical testing across authorized disciplines (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis) in strict accordance with the laboratory's COLA-approved SOP manual.
• Execute and document daily instrument calibrations, quality control (QC) tracking, and corrective actions for out-of-range values prior to reporting patient results.
• Maintain orderly, verifiable, and audit-ready logs for all pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities to ensure seamless biennial COLA on-site surveys.
• Participate in mandatory, documented competency assessments (semiannually in the first year of employment, and annually thereafter) covering all six CLIA-mandated elements.
• Successfully test and document blind proficiency testing samples exactly like patient specimens, adhering to strict anti-commingling regulations.
• Accession, process, centrifuge, and evaluate sample integrity, reporting data accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Promptly recognize critical, life-threatening results and follow immediate notification protocols to the attending Texas healthcare provider.
