Requirements

  • High School or Equivalent - will be required to provide proof (Diploma or Official Transcripts) upon hire
  • Graduate of a medical assistant program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (documentation on file) or;
  • Hold a current medical assistant certification from a nationally recognized certifying body accredited by National Commission for Certifying Agencies or American National Standards Institute (e.g., AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA) or;
  • Completion of a medical services training program through the U.S. Armed Forces (documentation on file).
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Able to communicate effectively with others; manage multiple priorities and tasks, to maintain attention to detail.
  • Able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol.
  • Knowledge of/ able to implement direct care, newborn through geriatric.
  • Knowledge of/able to use basic medical terminology

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years’ experience as a medical assistant in a clinical outpatient setting.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner.
  • Responsible for maintaining all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures.
  • Escorts patients to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital signs, history, and reason for seeking care.
  • Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due.
  • Schedules/confirms appointments.
  • Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family and clinical staff.
  • Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider.
  • Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations.
  • Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens; performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests; may perform venipuncture.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for charging for technical functions, assisting the physician and nurses for all clinical requests, and maintaining all applicable KRMC policies and procedures.
  • Included are also injections, organizing chemotherapeutic agents for the Oncology Nurses to administer, looking up authorizations, and developing moderate knowledge of chemotherapy, its side effects, and implications upon a patient population.
