Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting
  • Medical Assistant certification may be required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, spelling, and office ethics
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Understanding of basic clerical procedures, including recordkeeping and filing
  • Knowledge of patient confidentiality requirements

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones, schedule appointments, and check patients in and out
  • Obtain patient information, medical histories, vital signs, test results, and other clinical data
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records and ensure required forms and consents are completed
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms, equipment, instruments, and medical supplies
  • Manage medical supply inventory and stock exam rooms appropriately
  • Prepare, order, and administer medications under physician direction and supervision
  • Assist practitioners with medical procedures and other patient care activities
  • Assist with pre- and post-procedure patient transfers
  • Provide compassionate support and assistance to patients and families
  • Schedule and reschedule appointments, including managing waitlists and offering earlier openings when available
  • Schedule follow-up appointments at checkout or document the reason when an appointment cannot be scheduled
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other healthcare regulations and complete required annual training
