Medical Assistant- On Call/Pool, Days 8:00am-4:30pm
About The Position
Medical Assistant performs specialized work in inpatient or ambulatory care settings. Emphasis of the work is on assisting providers, nurse managers and Case Manager in the examination and treatment of patients and performing a variety of related clerical tasks. Jackson Medical Group Plantation is designed exclusively for Jackson team members and their adult dependents. With no copays for employees and their loved ones, this location offers convenient access to everyday medical care, preventive services, and follow-up support. We focus on family medicine and work closely with our patients to manage their ongoing health needs and answer questions about their care. Our team provides timely appointments, personalized treatment, and clear communication, so you always know what to expect.
Requirements
- Graduation from an approved Medical Assistant school is required
- Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the clinical area
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment
Nice To Haves
- Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants or credentialing as a Registered Medical Assistant by the American Society of Medical Technologies preferred
Responsibilities
- Using computer applications
- Answering telephones
- Welcoming patients
- Updating and filing patient medical records
- Coding and filling out insurance forms
- Scheduling appointments
- Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
- Handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping
- Taking medical histories
- Preparing patients for examination
- Assisting the physician during exams and certain procedures
- Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
- Performing basic laboratory tests
- Drawing blood
- Taking electrocardiograms
- May perform other advanced clinical duties under direction and supervision of a nurse or a physician, as needed based on assigned unit

- Performs all other related job duties as assigned
