This role, titled Medical Assistant (Ophthalmic Technician) - Willing to Train!, is with Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers and is located in New Albany, IN. Travel to other offices will be required as needed, with mileage reimbursement provided. The company offers a full benefits package, competitive pay, and paid time off. The position requires full-time hours that will vary within business hours of Monday-Friday 7:30 am-5:00 pm, with potential for slightly earlier or later work as needed. An Ophthalmic Technician is a valuable asset to an Ophthalmologist, assisting in providing excellent patient care and performing initial testing using equipment to prepare patients for examination. The employee will handle a wide range of duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Favorable result on Background Check
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong customer service skills

  • Dilation, refraction, pressures
  • Minimum Required: One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • Medical/eyecare experience highly preferred
  • Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification is preferred, but not required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate patient flow
  • Assist the doctor in preliminary testing
  • Verify medical and vision insurances
  • Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers
  • Answer inquiries through phone, email, and in-person requests
  • Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone)
  • Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave
  • Practice urgency at all times with patient’s time, as well as doctor’s time and schedule
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAA
  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient
  • Recording medical history, current medications and confirming purpose of visit
  • Records all data in the patient's Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Checks condition of patient's eyes by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements
  • Perform a variety of diagnostic tests including visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL master, auto refractor and topography
  • General office duties and cleaning to be assigned by manager
