An Ophthalmic Technician is a valuable asset to an Ophthalmologist as they assist in providing excellent patient care to the patients during their visit. This employee is able to handle a wide range of duties while using equipment to perform the initial testing needed to prepare a patient for an exam with an Ophthalmologist. The role involves facilitating patient flow, assisting the doctor in preliminary testing, verifying medical and vision insurances, and effectively communicating with patients, doctors, and managers. Responsibilities also include answering inquiries through phone, email, and in-person requests, recording medical history, and checking the condition of the patient's eyes by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements. The technician will perform a variety of diagnostic tests and general office duties.
