About The Position

Strategies to Empower People is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to provide medical support for intellectually and/or developmentally disabled adults and conduct trainings for staff. This role is not in a clinical setting but operates in community and home-based environments. The Medical Assistant will administer medical treatments, wound care, take vital signs, administer medications, provide discharge instructions, and perform related tasks. Medical administrative duties such as scheduling and record keeping are also part of the role. Additionally, this position will train employees on medical administration, CPR, and First Aid.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited licensure program.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (must be maintained throughout employment).
  • Three (3) years of professional experience as a certified Medical Assistant.
  • Clinical experience providing care to complex/vulnerable populations (e.g., persistent mental illness, significant disabilities, elderly and frail, homeless).
  • Medical administrative skills and general administrative tasks (emails, Outlook, basic computer skills).
  • Direct patient interaction experience.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of standard care procedures.
  • Working knowledge of HIPPA laws and adherence to HIPPA regulations.
  • Experience in training others and/or public speaking.
  • Strong organizational, communication (written and verbal), and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional ability to handle multiple assignments and prioritize work.
  • Proper time management.
  • Computer and driving skills.
  • Aptitude with using different systems.
  • Licensed and insured driver with a clean driving record (no excessive points, and no DUIs/wet-and-reckless in the past 10 years).

Responsibilities

  • Record and monitor standard care procedures including blood sugar, blood pressure, weight, and other vital signs.
  • Coordinate and perform care as needed/directed.
  • Utilize and read portable EKG devices.
  • Follow up with doctor offices and medical offices for testing or imaging results and/or medical reports.
  • Communicate and inform individuals regarding medical follow up or overdue medical services needed.
  • Accurately complete all medical administrative paperwork.
  • Perform hospital discharges and follow up with Physician's orders.
  • Perform minor medical procedures as authorized by Physician or Program Director within scope of practice.
  • Perform wound care as authorized by Physician or Program Director.
  • Assist Managers/Directors with emergencies, deliveries, and transportation.
  • Deliver supplies as needed.
  • Administer medical treatments, wound care, vital signs, medication administration, discharge instructions.
  • Perform medical administrative tasks such as scheduling and record keeping.
  • Act as an instructor to teach medical administration classes as well as CPR/First Aid to employees.
