About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) role at Optimum Human + Southwest Women's Oncology in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is crucial as they are often the first clinical contact for patients and significantly shape their experience. Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Registered or nationally certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent).
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Venipuncture certification required if applicable to the role.
  • Proficiency with clinical equipment including EKG machines, glucometers, pulse oximeters, spirometers, autoclave, blood pressure cuffs (adult, infant, pediatric), AED, nebulizer, and related devices.
  • Experience with medical software, EMR/practice management systems, and standard office technology.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and patient education skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, organized, and precise in a fast-paced specialty environment.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to every interaction.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in oncology, specialty care, or a multi-specialty clinical environment.
  • Familiarity with infusion therapy workflows and monitoring.
  • Experience with MISYS, E-Prescribe, or comparable practice management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and room patients, escort to exam rooms, and establish a warm, professional environment.
  • Perform and document vital signs, patient histories, and pre-visit assessments accurately.
  • Assist physicians and APPs with procedures, examinations, and clinical tasks.
  • Administer medications, injections, and treatments as directed.
  • Operate clinical equipment including EKG machines, glucometers, pulse oximeters, spirometers, and other devices.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and explain clinical processes clearly and compassionately.
  • Provide discharge instructions and post-visit care guidance.
  • Serve as a calm, reassuring presence for patients.
  • Collaborate with physicians, APPs, infusion nurses, schedulers, and administrative staff for seamless care delivery.
  • Manage exam room turnover, supply inventory, and clinical readiness.
  • Communicate effectively with the care team regarding patient status, updates, and outstanding needs.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete records in EMR systems.
  • Follow all safety, infection-control, HIPAA, and medication handling requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, processes, and the patient experience.
  • Participate in team huddles, training, and quality initiatives.
