About The Position

Under the supervision of the Administrative Nurse Manager and Medical Assistant Supervisor, the Hospital Assistant III supports patient care in Cancer Center ambulatory group practices, including multiple campuses and satellite offices. This role assists nursing staff and providers with clinical procedures, patient care, and laboratory support, ensuring high-quality service and adherence to UCSF Health standards.

Requirements

  • Floating between Burlingame and San Mateo locations.
  • Experience in a Cancer Center ambulatory setting.
  • Proficiency in obtaining and documenting vital signs, height, weight, pain scores, and patient history.
  • Experience with medication reconciliation and electronic health records (APEX).
  • Ability to prepare patients and support providers during exams and procedures.
  • Experience collecting specimens, performing point-of-care testing, EKGs, and simple lab procedures.
  • Willingness to act as a chaperone and provide translation support.
  • Knowledge of infection control, safety, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Ability to collaborate with a care team and coordinate patient flow.
  • Strong communication skills with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Experience with referrals, scheduling diagnostic tests, and obtaining authorizations.
  • Ability to support patient communications regarding refills, test results, and messages.
  • Skill in maintaining clean and well-stocked exam and procedure rooms.
  • Experience monitoring and ordering supplies and maintaining medical equipment.
  • Willingness to participate in quality improvement and customer service initiatives.
  • Adherence to UCSF Living PRIDE standards.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, pain scores, and patient history.
  • Assist with medication reconciliation and maintain accurate records in the electronic health record (APEX).
  • Prepare patients and support providers during exams and procedures, including specialized cancer-related procedures.
  • Collect specimens, perform point-of-care testing, EKGs, and simple lab procedures while following UCSF policies.
  • Act as a chaperone when needed and provide translation support in coordination with interpreting services.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Collaborate with the care team to coordinate patient flow and resolve patient concerns.
  • Maintain professional and courteous communication with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Assist with referrals, scheduling diagnostic tests, and obtaining authorizations for medications and procedures.
  • Support patient communications, including refill encounters, test results, and provider messages.
  • Maintain clean, well-stocked exam and procedure rooms.
  • Monitor and order supplies; ensure medical equipment is maintained.
  • Participate in quality improvement and customer service initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with UCSF Living PRIDE standards of professionalism, respect, integrity, diversity, and excellence.
