About The Position

Oklahoma City Indian Clinic (OKCIC) is a non-profit corporation that provides culturally sensitive health care to the American Indian population. OKCIC services not only include basic medical care, but also dental, optometry, behavioral health services, fitness, nutrition, and other family programs. Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is hiring passionate Certified or Registered Medical Assistants eager to provide professional medical care to adult and pediatric patients with acute and chronic conditions. The ideal candidate will be an energetic, reliable, highly motivated, flexible team player; will readily adapt to a fast-paced, demanding environment; and will maintain a focus on the clinic's Mission, Vision, and Values. Applicants claiming Indian Preference must complete the full application and must provide documentation verifying eligibility (such as a tribal enrollment card or Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB)).

Requirements

  • Must align with OKCIC vision, mission, and core values
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Vocational Program
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy Certification and be in good standing with the AAMA, NAHP, AAMP, and or RMA within 90 days of hire.
  • Current CPR is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) and the Electronic Health Record (EHR) is strongly preferred.
  • Radiology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists medical staff in patient screening, assessment, planning, education, and treatment implementation
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
  • Implements good communications with staff and patients to optimize workflow efficiency
  • Demonstrate respect for individual diversity (culture, ethnicity, gender, race, religion, age, economic status)
  • Employ professional techniques during verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Comply with risk management, safety, and infection control practices
  • Identify potential consequences of failing to operate within the scope of practice of a medical assistant
  • Timely electronic health record documentation, transmit information electronically, and scan patient-sensitive medical records into electronic medical records
  • Operates independently with a nurse only appointments and clinic visits: Cross-training in each facet of the nursing department to meet clientele's needs
  • Ear irrigation
  • Blood pressure checks
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG)
  • Safely performs basic X-ray procedures within the scope of training, established protocols, and applicable regulations, as directed.
  • Pregnancy testing and workup
  • Suture/Staple removal
  • Assesses signs and symptoms of infection post-procedure and generalized wound care dressing changes
  • Keeps exam rooms stocked with medical supplies
  • Schedules and cancels appointments
  • Retrieves and responds to patient telephone messages and EHR notifications
  • Operates and monitors general nursing equipment
  • No-show patient follow-up
  • Live answers phones and schedules appointments
