About The Position

As a member of the health care team, this role assists in coordinating the examination, treatment, and health care planning for patients under the direction of a provider. The Medical Assistant also supports patient care and office operations by assisting with other office functions and adhering to established protocols, policies, procedures, and standardized workflows.

Requirements

  • High School / GED or Completion of a Medical Assistant Program
  • 1 year as a Medical Assistant
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Newly hired medical assistants must complete training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire.
  • Newly hired medical assistants must obtain certification within 120 days of hire.
  • Medical assistants must achieve and maintain certification in accordance with CMS Meaningful Use requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with practice management software and electronic health record applications.
  • Current valid state driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and rooms patients according to standardized workflows, accurately obtaining vital signs and documenting patient information, history, and medication screening.
  • Prepares exam rooms for patient visits and completes annual wellness visit screenings.
  • Acts as an electronic health record (EHR) superuser, accurately documenting patient interactions and updating medication and social history in the EHR.
  • Assists providers with examinations and procedures, and administers screenings (depression, tobacco, chronic disease, MU required).
  • Performs in-house testing following established protocols and policies.
  • Assists with patient prescription needs based on established protocols.
  • Provides clinical leadership oversight and serves as a department resource for clinical questions.
  • Reviews pre-visit planning documentation and patient charts to ensure providers are prepared for required screenings and gaps in care.
  • Collaborates with the care team nurse to provide patient follow-up and notifies patients of test results under provider direction.
  • Ensures adequate inventory of medical supplies and stocks patient treatment areas.
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments per policy and manufacturer's guidelines, and performs lab controls and equipment checks.
  • Administers and documents medications accurately in accordance with policy and safety practices.
  • Serves as a peer mentor, orienting new medical assistants and demonstrating proficiency in workflows and documentation.
  • Performs clerical office functions and other assigned duties.
  • May serve as office safety officer, maintaining safety logs and quality assurance testing for POCT.
  • May perform additional duties such as minor wound care, splinting procedures, and 61 capsules procedures.
  • May require travel between physician office locations.
