About The Position

Assists with the provision of quality patient care and performs required administrative tasks. This role involves a variety of clinical and administrative duties to support patient care in a primary care setting.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or five years of equivalent experience, required.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy.
• Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.
• CPR certified (American Heart Association Heart saver with pediatric content) course, or Health Care Provider course or Red Cross equivalent, required.
• Strong written and verbal communications, interpersonal and problem-solving skills and professional behavior in the presence of patients and staff.
• Successful completion of Unlicensed Assistive Personnel orientation, and skills verification as required and provided by Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
• Computer familiarity and literacy with general data entry.
• Ability to learn and be proficient with specific computer programs, systems and Electronic Medical Record documentation.
• In lieu of accredited medical assistant program, five years of experience with blood pressures, temperatures, respirations, pulse, height, and weight, required.

• Pediatric experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare correspondence, documents, reports and other materials of varying complexity and confidentiality, sometimes requiring independent judgment.
• Schedule patient appointments and provide follow-up and reminder calls.
• Assist with various clinical tasks including rooming of patients, taking vital signs, heights and weights, and administering applicable screening questions.
• Provide basic, supportive patient care and administer approved medications under the delegation of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
• Collect and report data to a licensed professional, including any abnormalities, and document all findings in the medical record.
• Act as a preceptor for orientation and training of new staff, float staff and students as directed.
