About The Position

The Medical Assistant works under the Lead Medical Assistant and Practice Manager or Practice Supervisor to assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and quality care. The Medical Assistant works as part of a health care team to provide comprehensive care in a non-judgmental manner. This is a part-time, benefit-eligible position with scheduled weekly hours of 20.

  • Knowledge and appropriate use of medical terminology.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to fulfill the essential functions of the position, including required work hours, locations, and physical demands, without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves or other individuals in the workplace, and with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computer.
  • Required specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a two-year accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and quality care.
  • Work as part of a health care team to provide comprehensive care in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Measure and document vitals, take temperatures, draw blood, weight, and height.
  • Obtain a basic medical history including chief complaint, medication history, social history, and family history.
  • Prepare all patients for examinations with necessary medical supplies.
  • Maintain clinical competency and continuous education.
  • Review, process, and route clinical documentation.
  • Establish excellent rapport with patients, including patient education.
  • Work collaboratively with other health care professionals in providing outcome-oriented care.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills and thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients and co-workers by following standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrate necessary functions to maintain continuity of care for patients.
  • Cross-train to assist front-desk staff if necessary.
  • Room patients, take vitals, assist with procedures, handle prescription renewals, triage patient phone calls, review charts, process lab test results, schedule patients, and respond to provider messages.
  • Prepare exam rooms for providers between patient contact.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for office visits, prescriptions, and procedures/surgeries.
  • Assist in the in-bound/out-bound referral process.
  • Prepare the medical chart, including importing medications from pharmacy, preloading vaccines, and documenting pre-visit forms.
  • Administer vaccines.
  • Assist in scheduling new and established patient appointments as needed.
  • Communicate effectively over the phone with patients and other healthcare professionals using professional communication skills and promoting leading practices phone standards.
  • Evaluate patient phone calls.
  • Assist in inbox management and refills according to SMA policy.
  • Monitor and work appropriately in the Electronic Medical Record environment and office workflows.
  • Adapt in a busy office environment to meet care standards.
  • Understand supply management processes and needs.
