About The Position

This is a Part-time, 20-hour remote position with an occasional commute to the Stoughton, MA office. The Medical Assistant provides high-quality, direct patient care within a team-based model to BIDHC patients. The role supports smooth and efficient administrative and clinical practice operations and requires the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, respecting the beliefs of all patients and team members. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 0-1 years related work experience required.
  • Demonstrated Medical Assistant (MA) competencies within one year of hire.
  • Basic familiarity with computers and ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to BIDHC patient, practice, and organizational goals through relationship development and care team coordination, fostering long-term empathetic relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Assists patients throughout their visit by facilitating timely flow, informing patients and providers of delays, engaging with patients on visit reasons, updating medication and allergy lists, reviewing screening questions (e.g., PHQ-9), and acting as a liaison between patient and practice staff.
  • Communicates clearly with patients and the team, providing hand-off information to providers entering the exam room (e.g., reason for visit, abnormal vitals, patient stories).
  • Performs medical assisting duties under supervision, including obtaining vital signs, height, and weight measurements, performing EKGs, point-of-care testing, phlebotomy, administering immunizations (for certified MAs), and assisting during routine procedures.
  • Leads Population Health efforts by conducting conversations to meet quality and population health goals through outreach and health coaching. Monitors practice activity, identifies and addresses patients with health maintenance or chronic disease management needs, and assists with data gathering and basic health coaching.
  • Monitors, orders, and maintains medical equipment and supplies, ensuring they are clean, sterilized, stocked, and within expiration dates, adhering to control standards and maintaining unobstructed patient access areas.
  • Works within the electronic health record system (EHR) to queue prescription renewals, add new medications for provider review, enter/scribe orders for tests, services, or appointments as directed by a clinician, and accurately documents tasks for proper billing.
  • Schedules diagnostic and lab tests, accommodating patient and provider needs, and verifies patient insurance, including prior authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications.
  • Identifies OSHA compliance issues, ensures patient safety practices, promptly reports adverse patient events and near misses, and ensures Patient Health Information (PHI) is used only for treatment, payment, and operations (TPO).
