Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience in a health care setting, preferably orthopedics.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate with physicians, staff, and outside consultants.
  • Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements, including OSHA regulations.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications, including EMR.
  • Ability to walk frequently and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assist patients weighing up to 300 pounds.
  • Full range of motion.
  • Adequate visual acuity to read and interpret written material.
  • Adequate hearing and speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited course for Medical Assisting.
  • MA certificate.
  • Assisting with Phlebotomy if certified.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting physicians with patient care, including casting and bracing.
  • Preparing injections, taking vital signs, completing H&P questionnaires, and facilitating suture removals/dressing changes.
  • Applying casts, splints, and DME as needed.
  • Issuing prescriptions, physical therapy orders, home exercises, work restrictions, and diagnostic orders per physician instruction.
  • Assisting in patient education.
  • Maintaining a timely and safe clinic environment focused on efficient care, respecting patient privacy and dignity.
  • Preparing exam rooms, instruments, and linens, and performing sharps container checks.
  • Working closely with the assigned musculoskeletal team to ensure quality patient care and services.
  • Ensuring compliance with clinic standards of quality patient care.
  • Assisting physicians with the completion of procedure and diagnosis coding of encounter forms.
  • Reviewing daily schedules, new patients, follow-ups, and time allowances for designated physicians.
  • Coordinating schedules according to physician requirements with the Office Manager.
  • Ensuring required medical records are available for appointments and contacting responsible agencies if unavailable.
  • Documenting all patient-related communication or treatment in EMR.
  • Facilitating triage tasks and scheduled drugs via ECPS or triplicates with physician approval.
  • Reviewing and facilitating physician's communication folder and electronic tasks daily.
  • Assisting physicians in reviewing no-show and cancellation patients and taking appropriate action.
  • Maintaining supplies and restocking rooms on a prescribed schedule.
  • Sterilizing instruments on a prescribed schedule.
  • Functioning as a responsible designated tech according to guidelines in the doctor-specific Ortho Tech manual.
  • Attending continued education and skill labs.
  • Assisting with Phlebotomy if certified.
  • Tracking and completing patient FMLA forms timely.
  • Working non-assigned physician clinics as scheduled.
  • Assisting with completion of physician responses to electronic communication to provide resolution for patient inquiries.
  • Assisting with obtaining prior-authorizations for diagnostic studies and viscosupplementation injections.
  • Assisting in answering inbound patient calls regarding clinical needs.
  • Maintaining strictest confidentiality.
  • Traveling to other locations as needed.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.
