About The Position

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support in a pediatric urgent care setting, assisting with primary patient care according to individual patient needs and within the role’s scope of practice under a physician’s direct supervision. The position supports departmental functions aligned with PM Pediatrics’ mission, vision, and goals and maintains effective working relationships with patients and families, physicians, employees, volunteers, and vendors.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Prior experience and/or education as a Medical Assistant.
• Knowledge of EKG placement and processing in children.
• Ability to obtain laboratory tests via nasal swab and venipuncture.
• Professional and friendly demeanor.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Comfortable using computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Willingness to learn medical software.

Nice To Haves

• Prior pediatric experience.
• Venipuncture experience.
• Experience with medical records.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical and administrative support for providers, patients, and office operations.
• Greet and register patients; obtain medical history, vital signs, and intake information.
• Prepare patients for X-rays.
• Perform and document routine laboratory tests, such as throat and urine cultures.
• Irrigate and assist with wounds.
• Assist with quality control testing in the laboratory.
• Participate in the patient care team and assist with patient care within the scope of practice.
• Keep examination rooms and front reception stocked with supplies; maintain order and cleanliness in the waiting room.
• Follow standard safety practices and precautions.
• Respond to patients in distress, including emergencies, and notify the medical team.
• Follow policies and procedures, and report needed changes to management.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and protect patient care information.
• Take ownership of new and challenging requests and look for opportunities to add value to the role.
• Assist patients with complaints and take an active role in service recovery when needed.
• Perform other duties as needed, including applying splints and assisting nurses or providers with medical procedures.
