About The Position

The Medical Assistant is responsible for set up and to assist provider with medical procedures and examinations. Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an accredited program.
  • BLS (CPR) Certification.
  • Ability to perform point of care testing, draw and collect blood specimens, and prepare for laboratory processing.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in an ambulatory care setting preferred.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of phlebotomy and MA experience.

Responsibilities

  • Research physicians’ orders/accession orders within the Epic environment prior to submission to the clinical laboratory or the appropriate processing center.
  • Collects/records patients’ data, acquires patient vital signs, and may utilize skills such as phlebotomy.
  • Performs additional skills such as EKGs and dressing changes.
  • Sets up for and assists the provider with procedures and examinations
  • Administers approved medications per UAMS policy.
  • Manages patient appointment schedule by balancing medical needs with patients’ timetable.
  • Greets all patients/customers in a professional and courteous manner upon arrival at the clinic.
  • Performs patient registration/check-out, answers telephones, and performs other office administration duties as required.
  • Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary.
  • Coordinates appointments, referrals, consults, tests, and/or procedures.
  • Check in and register patients, check out and collect payments, issue receipts, and verify insurance coverage.
  • Responds appropriately to the requirements of third-party payers, requesting medical records and surgery scheduling.
  • Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines.
  • Assists internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
