About The Position

Mass General Brigham Medical Group, Inc. is seeking a full-time, 37.5-hour Medical Assistant to join their Express Care team. Express Care, formerly known as Urgent Care, provides timely treatment for non-emergency conditions for adults and children ages 3 and up, addressing a wide range of issues. The role prioritizes compassion and emotional support alongside quality medical care. The schedule involves 3, 12.5-hour shifts per week, including every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday). As Express Care operates 7 days a week, the schedule requires 2 on-call shifts per 4-week period, weekend and holiday coverage, and flexibility for overtime. The primary location is 137 Stuart Street in Boston, but on-call shifts may require travel to other locations including Brookline, Newton, Lynn, Natick, Westwood, and Woburn. Employees may also be asked to report to other centers during orientation, for training, or during times of staffing shortages. The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct patient interaction and collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - preferred
  • certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider (for immunizations)

Responsibilities

  • Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
  • Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
  • Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
