Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Current BCLS.
  • Knowledge of computer tasks and programs (Microsoft word and excel).
  • Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
  • Intermittent physical mobility/activity including walking, standing, sitting, light lifting, pulling or pushing of carts, equipment, etc.
  • Must be able to bend body downward at the waist; be able to kneel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates a positive, friendly, and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work well with other employees.
  • Ability to organize equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Ability to adhere to the work schedule and manage time appropriately.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • BCLS certification preferred within six (6) months of date of hire.
  • Previous work experience in an acute-care facility or long-term setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and supply the pre-operative areas for patient OR attire, extra linens (i.e. sheets, pillowcases, warm blankets) and other items needed for patient use.
  • Greet designated patients, using customer-friendly approach, pre-operatively and aid with the admitting process under the direction of the Pre-operative Registered Nurse and always communicating with the Pre-operative Registered Nurse.
  • Aid with continuous patient flow by providing pre-operative area with clean made-up stretchers and/or movable recliners, as necessary.
  • Communicate pertinent general information to nursing staff as indicated (i.e. surgeon and/or anesthesia arrival, etc.).
  • Assist PACU staff by retrieving nourishment for patients (i.e. crackers, cookies, soft drinks, etc.) at appropriate times under the direct supervision and instruction of the staff Registered Nurse.
  • May help patients change into street clothes before discharge, upon discretion of the PACU staff Registered Nurse.
  • Assist with patient transport via wheelchair upon discharge from PACU and supervision of the Registered Nurse.
  • Provide help putting medical supplies away in general and sterile storage areas.
  • Assist with removal of dirty linens, placing trash in appropriate receptacles, straighten PACU patient care areas, restock supplies as needed, clean stretchers with facility-approved agent and remake with clean linens after each use.
  • Provide the Circulating Nurse assistance with transporting patients from pre-op to the OR and from the OR to PACU, as directed.
  • Assist with OR room turnovers by mopping floor with facility-approved agent, wiping appropriate horizontal surfaces, and removing both clean and contaminated linens and waste, as needed, after patient leaves the OR and is taken to PACU.
  • Run errands to various locations (i.e. hospital, lab, pharmacy, OR) as instructed per Clinical Director and/or Administrator.
  • Always maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Assist in the business office with scheduling appointments, patient registration, medical record assembly and telephone coverage.
  • Conduct job tasks with efficiency and professionalism.
  • Maintain positive interpersonal communications between staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
