About The Position

The Medical Assistant performs a combination of clerical and administrative medical assisting and clinical medical office assisting in primary and/or specialty care settings. The Certified Medical Assistant works in collaboration with licensed physicians and mid-level providers (NP/PA) and reports to a Physician Practice Manager. This position is located at Massena Wound Care and is scheduled for 40 hours per week, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Six months of clinical experience as a nursing assistant or in a related field.
• Ability to file and retrieve patient records.
• Ability to obtain and document patient vital signs, weights, and related information.
• Interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, and providers.

Responsibilities

• Receive patients and their families and direct them to the appropriate place.
• Answer telephones promptly and politely.
• Schedule appointments.
• File pertinent information within patient records.
• Obtain insurance prior authorizations.
• Input charges on patient accounts.
• Verify patient insurance upon registration.
• Perform billing.
• Obtain and document patients’ vital signs.
• Act as a chaperone for the provider when needed.
• Obtain and document patient weights.
• Assist physicians with minor procedures such as suture removal.
