Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association.
  • Knowledge of general medical terminology, hospital policies and procedures, and Joint Commission and HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain accurate patient medical records.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • MS Office applications (Word, Excel and Power Point).
  • Analytical skills to determine job priorities.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Measures and records vital signs, identifies abnormal values and reports findings to nursing staff or medical provider.
  • Assists with patient arrival, schedules appointments, and facilitates patient exit from the clinic.
  • Recognizes emergencies and responds appropriately according to organizational policy.
  • Provides for patient comfort needs, considering age and special needs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of clinic equipment, including preparation, safety testing, cleaning, and disinfecting.
  • Maintains linens, supplies, and equipment for clinic use, and stocks exam rooms/tables.
  • Collects, prepares, and secures laboratory specimens for testing and/or transport.
  • Documents appropriately in the patient medical record according to departmental guidelines.
  • Navigates the Electronic Medical Record to obtain results, outside medical records, updates patient data, and schedules appointments.
  • Prepares safety reports as directed by the Clinic Manager.
  • Maintains patient privacy by securing computer screens when staff are absent.
  • Demonstrates honesty, promptness, dependability, courtesy, and respect in interactions.
  • Consults with and informs the clinic manager of clinic activities, requirements, and problems.
  • Manages patient and/or co-worker complaints calmly and positively, reporting them to the clinic manager.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality.
  • Implements standard and transmission-based precautions per hospital policy.
  • Ensures patient safety during clinic visits per hospital policy.
  • Reports safety hazards or violations to the Clinic Manager or designee.
  • Actively participates in Quality Improvement Process, including QAPI projects and EOC Rounds.
  • Gathers appropriate clinical documentation for provider review.
  • Obtains medical records from outside facilities when needed.
  • Scans outside correspondence into the electronic medical record.
  • Answers the telephone and routes calls promptly.
