Medical Assistant (GI Clinic)
About The Position
This role is for a Medical Assistant in a GI Clinic at University Health Truman Medical Center. The position is in a fast-paced, supportive, and rewarding environment where the Medical Assistant will work alongside providers and teammates to care for patients and ensure the clinic runs smoothly. The job involves preparing patients for appointments, performing clinical tasks such as administering medications and immunizations, collecting specimens, assisting with minor procedures, maintaining electronic medical records, supporting providers, participating in team huddles, and educating patients on their treatment plans.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Graduate of an Accredited Medical Assistant Program
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, NRCMA, or CCMA) – Required at time of hire and must be maintained.
- Current BLS Certification (or ability to obtain before starting).
- Knowledge of POCT, Immunizations, and Injections
- Strong Problem-Solving Skills
- Excellent Organization & Time Management
- Customer Service Rockstar
- Tech-Savvy – Comfortable with Microsoft applications and EMR systems.
- Radiology Certification (if applicable) – If the role requires X-ray functions, you must have radiology training from your MA program or a validated competency checklist.
Responsibilities
- Prep charts and check vitals.
- Administer medications and immunizations.
- Collect specimens.
- Assist with minor procedures such as wound care and suture removal.
- Keep patient records up to date in the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
- Support providers and participate in team huddles.
- Educate patients on their treatment plans, new medications, and follow-up care.
