About The Position

Under the direction of a physician/provider, the Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting in the examination and treatment of patients, delivering high-quality care and services while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. UNLV Health does not provide employment sponsorships or sponsorship transfers for any positions.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program.
  • Current, nationally recognized Medical assistant Certification or Registration required or obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Current CPR certification or obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Basic computer literacy required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Good communication and customer service skills required.
  • Knowledge of CLIA and OSHA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of sterilization and disinfection procedures.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA laws and ability to adhere to confidentiality policies.
  • Knowledge of current medical assistant best practices and procedures including EKG and basic drugs.
  • Knowledge of medical and pharmacology terminology and medical office procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of patient management software and basic Microsoft office products.
  • Ability to identify and apply proper communication methods in patient instruction.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret and read documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone and customer service skills.
  • Skills to implement good safety practices that prevent exposure to known workplace hazards and the necessary action needed when exposed.
  • Skill in applying and modifying principles, methods and techniques of a medical assistant to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Strong attention to detail skills.

Nice To Haves

  • One year medical assisting experience in an ambulatory/clinical setting preferred.
  • Casting and splinting experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • EPIC Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient instruction using proper communication methods.
  • Perform casting and splinting.
  • Identify and apply proper communication methods in patient instruction.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret and read documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Apply and modify principles, methods, and techniques of a medical assistant to provide ongoing patient care.
