About The Position

As the Medical Assistant (MA), you will work under the delegation of a licensed practitioner to perform duties as directed to assist in providing basic patient care to assigned patients. Basic patient care needs will be met through both administrative and clinical duties. You will be expected to perform in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations. The Medical Assistant will join WSU Health to support the assigned Logan Family Clinic, located in Spokane, WA. This position may provide crossover support to other clinics and services of WSU Health, including those on and off-site of the WSU Spokane campus. The Medical Assistant may perform duties of a Patient Services Representative in a backup capacity. The Logan Family Clinic is located at Logan Elementary School in Spokane and provides comprehensive, patient-centered care for community members of all ages. All aspects of family medicine services are offered including annual checkup, vaccinations, chronic condition management and illness and injury care.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA); OR high school graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience providing direct patient care in a health care setting; OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Hold or ability to obtain Washington Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Ability to obtain National Provider BLS - American Heart Association.
  • Experience with measuring and recording patients of all ages vital health statistics.
  • Ability to monitor and efficiently communicate information about a patient’s condition.
  • Knowledge of standard healthcare practices and medical terminology.
  • Ability to multitask and follow instructions given by healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required vaccinations for healthcare workers exposed to patients as defined by the CDC; OR provide record of blood serum titre.
  • Ability to work with the public, including in mobile and/or community settings.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients and their families.

  • Two or more years of working in the healthcare field; minimum 1 year pediatric experience.
