Requirements

  • High School, GED or formal educational equivalent
  • Current BLS
  • Completion of Accredited Medical Assistant training program
  • Excellent communication skills, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.
  • Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an ambulatory care setting
  • One (1) or more years of MA experience

Responsibilities

  • Greets and identifies patients.
  • Brings patients to the exam room.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs, height, weight, pain level, and other required information.
  • Updates medication lists, allergies, medical history, and other chart information.
  • Explains basic rooming procedures and prepare patients for examinations.
  • Assists with positioning and maintaining patient privacy and dignity.
  • Prepares examination rooms and equipment.
  • Assists physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives, and other clinicians during examinations and procedures within MA scope and UAMS policy.
  • Prepares supplies and instruments.
  • Collects and handles specimens according to procedure.
  • Performs approved clinical tasks as delegated by the provider.
  • Depending on the clinic, you may encounter patients for:
  • Enters accurate patient information into the electronic medical record.
  • Documents vital signs and clinical information.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation.
  • Answers routine patient questions within your role.
  • Communicates patient concerns to the nurse/provider.
  • Provides instructions that you are authorized to give.
  • Maintains professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality.
  • Answers or assist with telephone calls.
  • Helps coordinate appointments, follow-ups, referrals, labs, or testing as directed.
  • Communicates with other departments when needed.
  • Stocks exam rooms.
  • Cleans and prepares rooms between patients according to infection-control procedures.
  • Checks supplies and equipment.
  • May perform other duties as assigned
