About The Position

Michigan Surgical Center is seeking a dynamic, adaptable PRN Medical Assistant for a temporary, high-hour role at their premier Utica facility. This position offers the opportunity to work 32-36 hours per week, collaborating directly with Registered Nurses in both Pre-Op and Post-Op patient care. The role is ideal for gaining experience, filling a career gap, or boosting clinical hours in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Diploma required).
  • Availability to commit to 32–36 hours per week for this temporary assignment.

  • Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR, Practice Management Solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Project Management.
  • Vendor relations (for those MA’s that are required to order office and clinical supplies).
  • Database management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Skill in using computer programs and applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Delivers exceptional patient service throughout all interactions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
  • 6 months experience working within a physician’s office desired.
  • Urology experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting RNs with crucial Pre-Operative prep to ensure patients are comfortable and ready for their procedures.
  • Supporting Post-Operative recovery care, helping patients transition safely and smoothly following their surgeries.
  • Providing exceptional hands-on patient care, ensuring a warm, professional, and efficient experience.
  • Maintaining a seamless flow between the pre-and-post-op clinical areas.
  • Performing routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the medical offices running smoothly.
  • Conferring with physicians, nursing, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule appointments.
  • Greeting and preparing patients.
  • Measuring and recording vital signs.
  • Recording patient interview, history, and chief complaint.
  • Providing patient education with regards to medications, management of diseases, home treatments and special diets.
  • Preparing patients for examinations and performing routing screening tests.
  • Assisting physicians with exams.
  • Performing phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens.
  • Performing basic lab tests.
  • Performing EKG’s.
  • Assisting with X-ray and physician therapy procedures.
  • Preparing and administering medications with physician authorization.
  • Performing first aid procedures such as changing dressings, applying bandages, and removing sutures.
  • Using CPR skills when necessary.
  • Preparing accurate, legal, and ethical documentation.
  • Opening and closing the office.
  • Maintaining patient logs for lab requests, CT scans, and other treatment orders.
  • Maintaining prescription ledger when needed.
  • Ensuring the back office has good flow, keeping rooms full and assisting with room turnover.
  • Performing new patient work-up (x-rays, vitals, new patient packet explanation).
  • Adding medical history on all new patients and updating all established patients’ history.
  • Performing accurate and complete room set-up for physician.
  • Ensuring that all patients medication is updated before physician visit.
  • Handling set-up for in-office surgical procedures.
  • Ensuring appropriate consent form is completed correctly.
  • Scribing as assigned per physician office flow.
  • Preparing for seeing patients the following day, including patient confirmation.
  • Completing patient medical record requests.
  • Assisting in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Ensuring proper hand-off of responsibilities once tasks are completed.
  • Meeting established attendance criteria and starting work promptly.
  • Respecting and acknowledging the organization's commitment to cultural diversity.
  • Demonstrating good use of time and resources.
  • Adhering to HR and Corporate policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring that all medical records are accurate and complete.
  • Ensuring compliance of healthcare regulations, medical laws and high ethical standards.
  • Adhering and supporting compliance and accreditation efforts including OSHA, HIPAA & CMS guidelines.
  • Performing other position-related duties as assigned.
