About The Position

University Cancer & Blood Center (UCBC) is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant for their Primary Care office in Watkinsville, GA. UCBC is a growing and dynamic team that focuses on providing hope, guidance, and comfort to patients and their families. This is a FULL-TIME position where the Medical Assistant will be responsible for a variety of patient care activities under the supervision of a physician, including both back-office and some front-office functions.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • BLS - Required
  • Skill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in-writing.
  • Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficient computer skills- Microsoft suite, typing and phone etiquette.

Nice To Haves

  • Accreditation from Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • 1-year primary care/family medicine setting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and greets patients.
  • Reviews requests for release of patient information to ensure HIPAA compliance.
  • Monitors physicians schedules and organizes flow for physicians’ office visits or in-office procedures.
  • Completes referrals and prior authorizations for physicians, ensuring they are handled promptly and efficiently, and communicates with patients about future appointments.
  • Performs lab duties as needed, including phlebotomy, order entry, venipuncture, proper handling of tubes, and end-of-day tasks like sending out labs.
  • Cleans and stocks exam rooms daily and checks expiration dates on supplies.
  • Coordinates calls and calls in prescription refills to pharmacies under physician supervision.
  • Records vital signs; performs EKG, spirometry, and other similar non-complex office procedures.
  • Triage patients, including taking vital signs, obtaining height and weight, performing medication reconciliation, and obtaining medical history, ensuring EMR accuracy.
  • Assists physicians with exams, administers injections and immunizations, and administers medications (intramuscular, subcutaneous).
  • Performs emergency life-saving procedures if necessary.
  • Performs in-office tests including A1c, blood glucose checks, hemoglobin, urine samples, hemoccult, Hep C, HIV, and various swabs (flu A/B, covid, mono, strep, RSV).
  • Follows all practice protocols and established standards that promote a safe and productive work environment.
  • Practices standard precautions, including handwashing and disposal of bio-hazardous material, and complies with established risk management, HIPAA, and safety procedures.
  • Supports practice's procedures and policies for proper cleaning and routine maintenance.
  • Maintains work area and lab in neat and orderly manner.
  • Promptly reports equipment malfunctions to the office manager.
  • Communicates in a professional manner, demonstrating effective and appropriate oral and written communication skills with patients, staff, and healthcare providers.
  • Returns patient calls and voicemails in a timely manner.
  • Attends required meetings and in-services.
