The Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of clients under the direction of the Physician or Primary Care Provider (PCP) by performing various duties. This role requires understanding and compliance with HIPAA and other regulations concerning client confidentiality, greeting clients courteously, de-escalating complaints, and identifying clients accurately. Responsibilities include interviewing clients, obtaining vital signs and history, preparing clients and treatment rooms, preparing equipment, using sterile technique, assisting providers in procedures, operating diagnostic equipment, interpreting pediatric charts, administering immunizations, performing injections, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, managing supplies, guiding clients for labs and referrals, and entering/retrieving data from the Electronic Health Record (EHR). The role also involves answering phones, communicating with staff for efficient client flow, reporting emergencies, maintaining positive working relationships, attending meetings, maintaining a professional environment, and demonstrating professional behavior. Additionally, participation in Tele-Health visits, learning about American Indian culture, and delivering culturally responsive services are required. Level II responsibilities include having a Medical Assistant certification, functioning independently at satellite sites and as a Front Office Assistant, assisting in training new and current staff, contributing to policy development, leading clinical workflow improvement projects, participating in committees, seeking leadership training, and leading an educational in-service.
