The Medical Assistant will adhere to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, follow all policies and procedures, and maintain training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care. This role involves performing rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings. The Medical Assistant will assist providers with or perform procedures as ordered, and handle lab-related duties including venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, and results tracking. They will also perform Point of Care testing (POCT) and complete CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests. Medication and vaccine administration will be performed safely, following the rights of medication administration. Additional duties may include medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals. The Medical Assistant will be cross-trained to perform duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice within their scope. This role requires effective and timely communication, teamwork, appropriate escalation, and maintaining a clean, well-stocked work environment. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding growth and development principles and the ability to assess and interpret patient data based on age-specific needs.
