About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) will play a vital role in the care team at Nesset Family Medicine Clinic, a residency clinic within Advocate Health System. This clinic serves patients of all ages, from pediatric to geriatric populations, and is part of a three-year residency program with 11 Faculty members and 27 Residents. The MA will support providers, connect with patients, and ensure a seamless, compassionate experience. As a key member of the ambulatory care team, responsibilities include welcoming patients, taking and recording vital signs, medical histories, and health screenings, preparing patients for exams, assisting providers during procedures, administering medications and vaccines, performing lab-related tasks including specimen collection and point-of-care testing, documenting care in the electronic health record, and partnering with physicians, nurses, and teammates to deliver high-quality, coordinated care.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must have a medical assistant diploma or 2 years of medical assistant experience or be a certified MA with 2 years of medical assistant experience.
• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
• Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
• Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
• Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
• Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
• Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.
• May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
• Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.

• Phlebotomy skills are preferred.
