About The Position

Health First’s Medical Assistant (MA) training program, offered in partnership with Treasure Coast Technical College (TCTC) in Vero Beach, provides tuition assistance and on-the-job experience while participants complete the MA program. The program is seven months (765 hours) long and is held onsite in Vero Beach Monday through Friday during daytime hours. Participants gain experience working per diem as a patient observer, as needed, in a variety of shifts and locations depending on experience and availability. The program includes a clinical externship at a Health First location in Brevard County. Upon course graduation, participants transition into a full-time Medical Assistant position at Health First and agree to continue working as a full-time MA for 12 months after program completion. Health First provides up to $2,300 toward program tuition; supplemental costs such as scrubs, books, labs, testing, and certification fees are not covered.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Pass a background check.
Gain admission to the Treasure Coast Technical College Medical Assistant program.
Agree to continue working as a full-time Medical Assistant at Health First for 12 months after program completion.

Responsibilities

Measure patients’ height, weight, and blood pressure.
Prepare patients for examinations.
Update medical records.
Schedule appointments.
Work alongside physicians, nurses, and other office staff, mainly in medical offices and clinics.
Work per diem as a patient observer as needed while in school.
Complete a clinical externship at a Health First location in Brevard County.
After course graduation, work full time as a Medical Assistant at Health First for 12 months.
