About The Position

Assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of healthcare providers. This role involves a variety of clinical tasks, patient interaction, and administrative duties within an urgent care setting.

Requirements

  • Clinical Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant active certificate; OR equivalent from two-year college or technical school; OR six months to one-year related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience to be determined by leadership.
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software, Internet software, EMR systems (Athena preferred), and Database software.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients and equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to assist in moving patients weighing up to 300 pounds.
  • Regular exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Adherence to strict safety and hygiene protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews patients and accurately takes vital signs (manual BP, pulse rate, temperature, O2 level, weight, and height), recording information into EMR.
  • Prepares and stocks exam rooms for patient examinations.
  • Hands instruments and materials to providers during procedures.
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
  • Performs EKGs, urinalysis, strep tests, flu tests, COVID tests, mono tests, pregnancy tests, and checks patients' A1C.
  • Administers injections (intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous) per provider orders.
  • Manages portal messages from patients, refills medications, orders additional labs or imaging, and completes prior authorizations and precertifications for imaging.
  • Communicates effectively and instructs patients and/or their families as directed by the provider.
  • Calls patients to discuss results as directed by the provider, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Enters data into EMR to maintain office and patient records.
  • Performs blood draws competently and expediently.
  • Assists patients with mobility and transport needs, including helping patients in and out of wheelchairs or exam tables, escorting or transporting patients, and ensuring their comfort and safety.
  • Monitors patients during transport for signs of distress, maintains cleanliness of transport equipment, and provides emotional support.
  • May be required to perform duties outside of normal responsibilities as needed or directed by supervision, such as assisting with patient check-in.
