At Oak Street Health, Medical Assistants (MAs) are essential Care Team members who report to the Practice Manager or Center Operations Specialist. Your primary role is to collect accurate patient data — through screenings, collecting vitals and diagnostic testing — to support informed clinical decision-making. Success in this role requires flexibility, attention to detail, and a commitment to building strong relationships with our patients. By collaborating closely with your team, you will drive clinical results while ensuring an unmatched patient experience.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year experience employed as a medical assistant (non-externship), preferably in primary care.
  • Active CPR or BLS Certification
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
  • Ability to quickly navigate and use multiple computer programs to include, but not limited to: Gmail, MS Word or Google Docs, Excel or Google Sheets, etc.
  • Hands-on patient experience with taking patient vitals, administering diagnostic testing, and immunizations
  • US work authorization

Nice To Haves

  • State or national certification
  • graduation from an accredited medical assistant course
  • CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) license from state or national level
  • Experience with blood draws (phlebotomy) and specimen collection.
  • Problem-solving skills, professional accountability, and a flexible, positive attitude in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and customer service orientation
  • An appetite for expanded responsibilities, greater clinical experience, and a chance to truly make an impact in their patients’ lives
  • 2 or more years of experience working with geriatric patients
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification
  • Fluency in another language is not required, but is a plus when it comes to connecting with our diverse patient communities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure an efficient patient flow: room patients in a timely manner, complete vital signs, complete required screenings and complete medication reviews
  • Stock exam rooms and manage inventory of supplies.
  • Respond to patient requests for telephonic support, such a lab results, faxing records to specialists, etc.
  • In accordance with state regulations, MAs may administer vaccinations, perform point of care tests including but not limited to: A1C, spirometry, EKGs, blood draws for lab testing (phlebotomy)
  • Ensure accurate record keeping by updating Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and upload required documents via scanning or PDF upload
  • Participate in daily care team meetings to discuss patient care and clinic operations
  • Process orders for durable medical equipment, in partnership with clinical leadership and support teams
  • As required by the patient provider, request medical records from external providers and specialists
  • Conduct any required routine quality control checks including infection control measures, equipment, and checks for expired medication and supplies and/or assist in maintaining center lab
  • Other duties as assigned
