Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association.
  • Knowledge of general medical terminology, hospital policies and procedures, and Joint Commission and HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain accurate patient medical records.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • MS Office applications (Word, Excel and Power Point).
  • Analytical skills to determine job priorities.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Measure and record vital signs, identify abnormal values, and report findings to nursing staff or medical provider.
  • Assist with patient arrival, schedule appointments, and facilitate patient exit from the clinic.
  • Recognize emergencies and respond appropriately according to organizational policy.
  • Provide comfort needs of patients, considering age and special needs.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of clinic equipment, including preparation, safety testing, cleaning, and disinfecting.
  • Maintain linens, supplies, and equipment for clinic use, and stock exam rooms.
  • Collect, prepare, and secure laboratory specimens for testing and/or transport.
  • Document appropriately in the patient medical record according to departmental guidelines.
  • Navigate the Electronic Medical Record to obtain results, update patient data, and schedule appointments.
  • Prepare safety reports as directed by the Clinic Manager.
  • Maintain patient privacy by securing computer screens when staff are absent.
  • Demonstrate honesty, promptness, dependability, courtesy, and respect in all interactions.
  • Consult with and keep the clinic manager informed of clinic activities, requirements, and problems.
  • Manage patient and/or co-worker complaints in a calm, positive, non-judgmental manner and report these to the clinic manager.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality.
  • Implement standard and transmission-based precautions per hospital policy.
  • Ensure patient safety during clinic visits per hospital policy.
  • Report any safety hazards or violations to the Clinic Manager or designee.
  • Actively participate in the Quality Improvement Process, including QAPI projects and EOC Rounds.
  • Gather appropriate clinical documentation for medical provider review.
  • Obtain medical records from outside facilities when needed.
  • Scan outside correspondence into the electronic medical record.
  • Answer the telephone and route calls promptly to the appropriate person.
