About The Position

The Medical Assistant is a member of the patient centered medical home (PCMH) care team responsible for working with providers, nurses, and other front office staff to ensure the complete and timely patient flow process. This individual exhibits sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population and must maintain strict confidentiality. Optimus Health Care is the largest provider of primary health care services in Fairfield County, with multiple locations in Bridgeport, Stratford, and Stamford. Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Experience in a clinical setting
  • Professional positive attitude, vision, understanding of customer service principals, trustworthiness, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • CPR certification required upon hire and recertification bi-annually

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) helpful
  • Bilingual: Spanish-English or English/Creole helpful
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively interpret medical terminology
  • Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants or in process of acquiring Certification, a plus

Responsibilities

  • Administer health questionnaire to patients
  • Act as a chaperone by accompanying the clinician in the exam room for any intimate exam
  • Update patient information in Epic (EMR system)
  • Manage in-basket messages
  • Take patient history & vital signs
  • Prepare patients for exam & treatment
  • Prepare exam rooms w/ necessary equipment & supplies
  • Assist with scheduling of tests & treatments
  • Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines, and confidentiality and privacy policies
  • Maintain competency in the use of clinical equipment and procedure
  • Connect language interpretation service for the clinician when needed
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed
  • Explore community resources available to meet the patient’s needs
  • Maintain ongoing networking efforts w/community providers in the area
  • Perform other related duties as needed
