The Medical Assistant will perform a combination of duties under the direction of a provider, including screening patients for medical histories, recording vital signs, and performing EKGs. Responsibilities also include preparing patients for examinations, assisting providers as needed, scheduling follow-up appointments, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, and performing phlebotomy. The role involves ensuring proper disposal of contaminated supplies, preparing instruments for sterilization, stocking examination rooms, and ordering necessary supplies. Maintaining communication with health agencies for immunization reporting and communicable diseases is crucial for updating patient information. The position requires moving equipment when necessary, operating equipment, and preparing patient medical records or EMRs with appropriate intake sheets. This includes gathering information, recording complaints, taking vital signs, and performing various ordered tests. Logging laboratory and radiology results into patient records and completing various forms for medical, physical, disability, and school purposes are also key duties. The Medical Assistant will track inventory for supplies and vaccines, interview patients, ensure charts are prepared with relevant information for providers, and assist in maintaining patient flow. Escorting patients and specimens, setting up examination rooms, and distributing educational materials are part of the role. Assisting with prescription refill authorizations and recalling or rescheduling patients as instructed are also required. The position demands the ability to perform directives from physicians and other duties as required.
