Under the direction of the health care provider, the Medical Assistant is responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and wellbeing of all patients. This role accurately performs preliminary physical tests such as measuring blood pressure, recording weight, temperature, pulse, and respirations, and other measures as directed by established clinical protocols. The Medical Assistant will also prepare, clean, and sterilize instruments, maintain equipment, keep patient exam rooms stocked, clean, and orderly, and dispose of contaminated items according to protocol. Documentation of patient plans of care, tests, and examination results in the medical record is also a key function. The role requires escalating non-routine issues to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s) and ensuring safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required. The Medical Assistant must provide for patient safety and the protection of patient privacy rights, and perform other duties as assigned.
