About The Position

At Concentra, the Medical Support Specialist (MSS) is a member of the patient care team who performs routine medical and testing procedures under the direct supervision of the treating clinician. The role also supports other facility areas as needed, including registration and referral management. The MSS provides efficient, accurate one-on-one care in a fast-paced environment and helps ensure patients receive quality clinical care and a welcoming, respectful, and skillful experience. The position includes clinical procedures, testing, patient-flow support, equipment and supply maintenance, documentation, and front- and back-office administrative work. The MSS must follow HIPAA guidelines, safety rules, company policies, and applicable state regulations. Duties may change at any time and are not limited to those listed in the posting.

Requirements

Vocational/technical/business school education level.
Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program with completion of an externship highly preferred, or at least one year of direct patient care experience as a medical assistant, or military medical specialist experience; must meet credentials in the state of employment and applicable regulations.
Customarily at least six months or more of medical assistant experience.
Knowledge of medical procedures and medical terminology.

Participation in initial and ongoing training as required.
Obtain required Medical Support Specialist certifications, including Drug Screen Collection, Breath Alcohol Certification, and Hair and Oral Fluids Collection.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, and ability to enter data into various systems and applications.

Responsibilities

Perform DOT and Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing.
Prepare patients for physical examinations, take vital signs, and perform required or requested ancillary testing, including vaccines and injections, phlebotomy, PFTs, audiograms, and respirator fit testing.
Perform rapid screening tests such as influenza, strep, mono, and glucose tests.
Assist providers during examinations and treatment.
Perform routine medical procedures as ordered by the treating clinician and triage emergent patients as needed.
Prepare and assist the clinician with procedure setup and injury care.
Apply bandages, dressings, and splints as ordered by the treating clinician.
Dispense medications and DME as ordered by the treating clinician and in accordance with state regulations.
Perform quality assurance activities on equipment, medical devices, and testing processes used in the center.
Maintain supplies; clean rooms and equipment; and stock exam rooms.
Maintain and operate medical devices and equipment, including calibration and record keeping in accordance with current policies and procedures.
Notify a supervisor immediately if equipment is not functioning properly, supplies are needed, or the facility is not operating as expected.
Partner with center leadership to assist with patient flow and volume.
Keep patients informed of expected wait times throughout their center visit.
Perform front- and back-office clerical tasks associated with patient care and proper record keeping.
Ensure documentation is accurate.
Perform front-office duties, including greeting patients, obtaining authorization, checking patients in and out, communicating wait times, answering a multi-line telephone system, and distributing employer results or paperwork as needed.
Follow HIPAA guidelines and safety rules.
Attend center staff meetings or huddles as required.
Help maintain a neat, clean, and orderly facility.
Complete applicable training, including monthly clinical competency training.
