About The Position

The Medical Assistant supports the practice's patients and ensures smooth daily operations. Screens patient calls for providers and assists providers with procedures. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Maintain Medical Assistant Certification or obtain upon eligibility.
  • Maintain current BLS through the American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification: CMA, RMA, or other third-party accreditation for Medical Assisting, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate verbally in a professional manner with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Follow directions from physician or mid-level provider.
  • Record patient data in electronic medical record for providers (i.e., vital signs, vision tests, histories, etc.).
  • Provide patient education on medications as needed.
  • Process lab work, office procedures, and make appointments for diagnostic or specialty testing while educating patients about procedures and preparation for procedures.
  • Prepare (including stocking medical supplies as needed) and clean exam rooms for provider/patient needs.
  • Complete proper sterilization of all office instruments and equipment as necessary.
  • Assess all clinical calls with provider to determine acuity.
  • Administer injections and have knowledge of immunizations.
  • Maintain smooth flow in daily schedule between providers and patients.
  • Maintain the electronic medical record, read and add dictation to records, and scan lab results.
  • Per provider orders, relay patient prescriptions to the pharmacist, follow-up orders, and test-result notifications.
  • Obtain and prepare electronic medical record for provider to review and document.
  • May need to cover for other offices at all Health Centers; cross-training may be required.
  • Fax, copy, or mail medical information as needed or required, as instructed by the provider.
  • Keep assigned drug room organized and stocked with current medications.
  • Assist with daily scanning, filing, and answering telephones in the reception area, as needed.
  • Greet drug representatives and obtain necessary drug samples and data.
  • Perform breath alcohol tests and urine drug screen collections, ensuring correct labs are utilized, as needed for patient care.
  • May be required to perform phlebotomy coverage as needed upon completion of training.
  • Utilize standard procedures for the maintenance of positive patient identification; record appropriate collection information by the established protocol.
  • Process, register, label, and store blood samples for subsequent analysis.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, reordering as required; stack supplies on carts and hand trays.
  • Perform various quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
  • Participate in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
