This position involves providing direct patient care procedures and related tasks within a women's health clinic. The Medical Assistant will assist in patient check-ins, obtain histories, take vital signs, prepare charts and electronic health records, and support medical exams. The role also contributes to unit functioning by managing phone calls, delivering messages, and escorting patients and families. Care is provided under the medical direction of a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) and administrative direction of the Nurse Executive or designee. The Medical Assistant will monitor patients, report changes in condition, and record patient information as per unit policy. Responsibilities include assisting with patient examinations, transfers, and maintaining a professional demeanor in all interactions. The role also involves maintaining clinical records, adhering to HIPAA and Privacy Act policies, and accurately inputting data into unit computer systems. Additionally, the Medical Assistant will assist with appointment arrangements, discharges, and transfers, prepare patient admission or transport documents, and use EHR and RPMS systems for data retrieval. Clerical tasks such as transcribing orders, preparing packets, making appointments, and ensuring records have adequate forms are also part of the duties. Patient education and discharge instructions will be provided and documented. The role requires practicing Infection Control/Safety principles, assisting with specimen collection and handling, performing CLIA-waived testing, and administering injections. General maintenance duties, inventory management, ordering supplies, and assisting with the orientation of new personnel are also expected. Participation in relevant committees, Quality Management activities, and CMS required training is mandatory.
