About The Position

The Medical Assistant Team Lead is a front-line leader supporting daily operations across Vascular Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, and Nephrology. Partnering closely with the Practice Manager, this role helps ensure efficient clinic flow and a positive experience for patients, providers, and staff. This newly created position will support clinical operations during a period of growth and innovation, including workflow development, Epic readiness, and preparation for the new Academic Health Center opening in 2027. Ideal for an experienced Medical Assistant, this role offers the opportunity to lead, coach teams, and drive operational improvements in a fast-paced, multi-specialty environment.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant certification required
  • Minimum of 2 years of Medical Assistant experience
  • Clinical externship or hands-on clinical experience
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires graduation from a Medical Assistant program and/or certification from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Healthcareer Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).
  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required.
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • 2 years' experience as an MA II or III required.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required.
  • Requires ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and support clinic flow throughout the day
  • Coordinate daily clinical workflows
  • Support providers, nurses, and other clinical team members
  • Assist with managing patient throughput and operational efficiency
  • Ensure high-quality patient care while maintaining workflow standards
  • Coach, mentor, and support Medical Assistants
  • Serve as the operational point person when leadership is unavailable
  • Help identify workflow challenges and recommend solutions
  • Support clinic efficiency and patient flow management
  • Participate in and potentially lead daily huddles
  • Assist with implementing workflow improvements and best practices
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment
  • Provides functional guidance to support staff and performs the duties of a medical assistant in accordance with organization standards.
  • Provides coordination of administrative services to ensure smooth operation.
  • May coordinate scheduling, training, and inventory duties.
  • May be responsible for inpatient and outpatient consult activities within assigned location.
  • May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician.
  • Assist the Practice Manager in overseeing the daily operational flow of the multi-specialty clinic across all three service lines.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for MA team questions, concerns, and day-to-day needs, escalating to the manager as appropriate.
  • Monitor patient rooming, provider readiness, and clinic pacing to proactively identify and resolve flow disruptions.
  • Support onboarding and ongoing development of medical assistant staff, modeling best practices in patient care and clinic operations.
  • Collaborate with nursing and administrative teams to ensure seamless coordination throughout the clinic day.
  • Actively contribute to a new clinic initiative focused on improving patient flow, operational efficiency, and the overall clinic experience.
  • Serve as a resource and champion for process improvements, helping translate new workflows into consistent team practices.
