As a Medical Assistant, you provide a safe patient experience from the moment they walk into a ProMedica facility. From gathering data from the patient to documenting the reasons for the visit and obtaining vitals, the medical assistant strives for clinical excellence. The Medical Assistant will anticipate and prepare the patient, clinical equipment, and supplies for the visit. They will prepare the patient for the visit by gathering baseline data from the patient, documenting reasons for the visit, and obtaining vitals/office testing. The Medical Assistant will accurately obtain vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure), understand normal vital signs, and report variations if present. Responsibilities include medication reconciliation, pill counts, and filling meds as ordered by the providers. The Medical Assistant will assist with injections in the office and go with the physician to the OR for procedures. They will collect routine specimens when necessary, manage narcotic agreements as needed, and observe, report, and record patient appearance and condition. The role requires understanding physical, emotional, and mental changes in patient condition and reporting them appropriately. Providing one-to-one care as assigned, documenting appropriately in the medical record using correct forms, terminology, and abbreviations, and signing appropriately are key. Demonstrating knowledge of routine patient supplies and equipment, safely utilizing equipment to assist in patient needs and care delivery, and obtaining supplies and equipment from other departments as requested are also important. The Medical Assistant will clean and return equipment to proper locations or departments, maintain clean and neat patient beds and rooms, and unit areas, and maintain a safe and comfortable patient environment. Providing excellent patient service by documenting information accurately, promptly, and legibly to meet regulatory requirements, utilizing medical charts, forms, practice management systems, and all forms of electronic communication efficiently are expected. Demonstrating clinical knowledge and focusing on customer service to answer and triage patient telephone calls, recording complete and accurate messages, and obtaining necessary instructions from providers and nurses when appropriate are also part of the role. Communicating professionally with patients, providers, and co-workers at all times and providing for a safe patient experience through adherence to clinical protocols, regulatory requirements, manufacturer standards, and reporting any potential equipment malfunctions or safety violations are crucial. Supporting internal and external customers to maintain a superior customer experience across the continuum of care through teamwork and demonstrating stewardship of practice finances through efficient utilization of practice resources such as medical supplies, office supplies, and time management are expected. Actively participating and being engaged in staff meetings and performing other duties as assigned that support core values are also part of the role. Population Specific Competencies include: Registration, Scheduling, Billing; Check in check out knowledge; Coordinate schedules with surgery as applicable; Be able to perform and or assist in Urine collections, cleaning equipment, ordering supplies etc.; Assist with wound vacs, wound dressings as applicable; Vital signs.
