About The Position

Acts as a collaborative member of the clinic team in providing continuity of and quality patient care. Assesses and provides appropriate intervention for the problems that patients and families experience related to their health care and treatment to include teaching, counseling and supporting as needed to assist provider, patient and family. Also acts as lead clinician in assistance to provider and/or as dedicated telephone assistant and also provides clinical oversight for the clinical employees of the clinic.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Minimum of two years cardiac office experience required.
  • Minimum of one year of scheduling and registration experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight for other medical assistants, schedulers and registration staff.
  • Assesses problems/conditions requiring visit and accurately documents in medical records.
  • Greets and screens patient for appropriate information, preparing for examination by provider.
  • Assists provider in examination, treatment and referral of patient, preparing necessary paperwork, equipment, etc.
  • Initiates testing ordered by provider, to include completion of paperwork and scheduling of appointments.
  • Gives injections to patients.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Maintains medical record entries and provides oversight of medical record content.
  • Assists in referral management and tracking.
  • Calls prescription information as necessary and under direction of provider.
  • Maintains appropriate level of medical supplies and drugs, to include inventorying and ordering.
  • Develops and maintains a useful documentation system for care that complies with legal, TJC and quality management requirements.
  • Maintains files with referral slips and authorizations and makes appointments for consults while adhering to office scheduling policies.
  • Schedules test and referrals.
  • Reconciliation of tests and labs ordered.
  • Performs venipunctures/finger, heel sticks for lab tests ordered.
  • Responsible for excellence in customer service and ensuring patient needs are met.
  • Responsible for routine requests for information/service and directs visitors/patients to appropriate staff.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in appearance and actions.
  • Registers in Cerner all patients as they come in for their appointment.
  • Verifies insurance and update demographics using the two identifiers.
  • Transcribes data from face sheets and enters into computer files.
  • Forwards face sheets to appropriate personnel per office policy.
  • Screens and reviews face sheets at time of entry for proper completion and accuracy.
  • Researches documents in error with appropriate individuals for proper completion.
  • Reviews output for accuracy of data input.
  • Enters correcting entries when brought to operator’s attention.
  • Attends in-service and other meetings as required.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Collects co-pays and facility fees.
  • Completes End of Day balance sheet/ Deposit forward to PFS.
  • Schedules necessary follow up appointments/testing.
  • Assists in handling patient issues and concerns.
  • Communicates with physicians, nurses, and manager of any scheduling or front desk issues that might affect clinic.
  • Assists in maintaining staff coverage.
  • Keeps staff informed of any daily scheduling changes.
  • Assists with Medical Records duties as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.
