About The Position

The Medical Assistant functions under the supervision and guidance of the Medical Provider. The Medical Assistant assists in the daily operations of the clinic by performing clinical duties. They work closely with Medical Providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care and maintain efficient clinic operations.

Requirements

Medical Assistant certification, preferred
Minimal/No Experience
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Good organizational and time management skills
Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
Excellent attention to detail
Empathy and professionalism in patient care
Medical Assistant certification, preferred
BLS verification within 6 months of hiring

Responsibilities

Maintain consistent patient-centered care
Demonstrate the ability to effectively organize and prioritize work and utilize available resources to assist with efficient patient flow in the clinic
Utilize the clinic’s Performance Improvement processes to assist in identifying the clinic’s needs related to patient care and customer service
Demonstrate flexibility in work roles and schedules to meet the changing needs of the clinic
Utilize slow time constructively to enhance clinic operations and assist other departments when time and workload permits
Promptly inform supervisor of real-time or potential clinic issues or concerns
Meet work schedules, fulfill responsibilities and commitments (i.e. attendance, punctuality, dependability, initiative, productivity and efficiency)
Maintain awareness of new information applicable to job (i.e. policies, meeting minutes, procedures, memos, and protocols, etc.)
Understand and support organizational goals
Maintain professional appearance and follow established dress code
Demonstrate the ability to identify personal areas of needed improvement and formulate goals to work on these areas of improvement
Measure and record patient vital signs
Assist Medical Providers with patient examinations and medical procedures as necessary, such as sterile dressings, EKGs, pulmonary treatments, etc.
Administer medications and injections as directed by Medical Provider
Perform proper handling and labeling of all test samples according to organizational policies
Perform basic diagnostic tests (e.g. EKG, vision testing, etc.) under Medical Provider supervision
Actively assist with routine clinic tasks. Utilize established methods to ensure consistency in maintaining emergency supplies, stock medications, forms, equipment, and appropriate exam room inventory, etc.
Assist with patient education based on assessment of patient needs and clinic standards of nursing care and documents in patient record
Assume role of advocate to ensure health needs are met including responding to patient phone messages and requests in a timely and professional manner
Assist with triage patients on-site and via telephone for appropriateness and timeliness of care per provider preference
Follow all established Infection Control guidelines and OSHA standards and participate in staff training events
Ensure cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and common areas
Perform effectively and appropriately in emergency situations
Maintain confidentiality of patients and staff
Assist with documentation of Medical Provider orders, nursing actions, and interventions in patient’s medical record in accordance with clinic policies
Assist with keeping patients or their families informed of situations that arise in the clinic such as extended waiting times, being asked to see provider other than originally scheduled, etc.
